Mechanical Engineer Intern
About the Role
AndrenaM is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern to support the design, prototyping, and testing of innovative mechanical systems for our maritime sensing and autonomous platforms. This internship is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of rugged, lightweight, and manufacturable components designed for operation in harsh ocean environments.
You’ll work closely with experienced engineers on projects involving materials selection, CAD modeling, prototyping, and system integration. This role is ideal for students or recent graduates who are passionate about mechanical design, hands-on prototyping, and building real-world systems that operate at sea.
In This Role, You Will
- Assist in the design and prototyping of mechanical components using CAD tools.
- Collaborate with electrical and software engineers to integrate sensors, PCBs, and electronics into mechanical enclosures.
- Support testing and validation of prototypes in lab and field environments.
- Participate in design reviews and learn to apply design-for-manufacturing (DFM) principles.
- Conduct research on materials (e.g., composites, polymers, metals) for use in marine environments.
- Help create and update technical documentation, drawings, and assembly instructions.
Who You Are
- Pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
- Familiar with CAD tools (Siemens NX or similar) and comfortable creating 3D models and basic assemblies.
- Curious, hands-on, and excited to learn about mechanical systems that operate in tough real-world conditions.
- Strong communicator and team player, eager to collaborate across disciplines.
- Previous experience with composite Layup, 3D printing, machining, or building mechanical systems (through school, personal projects, or internships) is a plus.
Bonus Points For
- Exposure to manufacturing processes such as CNC machining, injection molding, or composite layup.
- Interest in autonomous systems, maritime technology, or defense-related applications.
Why Join Us?
AndrenaM is at the forefront of maritime autonomy, offering the chance to work on impactful, real-world technologies. As an intern, you’ll get hands-on experience with a small and dedicated team, helping shape the future of ocean-based sensing and autonomy.
We offer:
- Mentorship from experienced engineers and startup founders.
- Exposure to real engineering challenges in defense and maritime tech.
- Potential for full-time opportunities post-graduation.
