Electrical Engineer Intern

Hawthorne, CA
Internship
Student (College)

About the Role

AndrenaM is seeking an Electrical Engineering Intern to support the development of advanced electronics and embedded systems for our maritime sensing and autonomous platforms. This internship is a hands-on opportunity to contribute to real-time hardware systems powering ocean-based autonomy while working alongside a passionate, multidisciplinary team in Hawthorne, California.

You’ll help prototype, test, and refine electronic systems that integrate sensors, microcontrollers, and communication hardware—all engineered for harsh marine environments. This is a unique chance to gain real-world experience designing for performance, reliability, and manufacturability in defense and autonomy applications.

In This Role, You Will

  • Assist in schematic design, PCB layout, and prototyping of electronic systems for embedded and sensor-based applications.
  • Work with engineers to test and debug hardware systems, contributing to performance validation and reliability testing.
  • Support integration of hardware with software systems and participate in system-level troubleshooting.
  • Learn to apply design best practices for high-reliability, low-power, and EMI-resistant circuits.
  • Help document designs, test results, and revision history for future manufacturing and compliance needs.

Who You Are

  • Enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Comfortable working with electronics lab tools like oscilloscopes, multimeters, soldering irons, and logic analyzers.
  • Familiar with PCB design tools (e.g., KiCad, Altium, or Eagle) and basic embedded systems concepts.
  • Enthusiastic about hardware development and excited to learn from hands-on prototyping and field testing.
  • A team player who’s detail-oriented, curious, and eager to work in a startup-like environment.

Bonus Points For

  • Experience designing simple circuits or PCBs through personal, academic, or internship projects.
  • Familiarity with microcontrollers (e.g., STM32, ESP32, Arduino) or communication protocols (UART, SPI, I2C, CAN).
  • Interest in signal processing, wireless communications, or low-power design.
  • Passion for maritime systems, autonomy, or defense technology.

Why Join Us?

At AndrenaM, you’ll gain exposure to real engineering challenges in a rapidly evolving sector that blends defense, robotics, and ocean tech. You’ll be working on mission-driven products that support national security and marine domain awareness.

We offer:

  • Mentorship from experienced engineers and startup founders.
  • Exposure to real engineering challenges in defense and maritime tech.
  • Potential for full-time opportunities post-graduation.
