Electrical Engineer
About AndrenaM
AndrenaM is building the central nervous system for maritime autonomy by creating a distributed sensing and communication network. Our platform integrates sensors, autonomous vehicles, and AI-driven analytics to provide real-time situational awareness and defense capabilities. Our technology supports critical maritime defense operations for the U.S. Navy and NATO, pushing the boundaries of what is possible in maritime autonomy.
About this role
AndrenaM is seeking a Electrical Engineer who is excited about advancing real-time maritime communication and autonomy. You’ll join a team building the distributed sensing network that acts as the central nervous system for maritime autonomy. This is a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge, multidisciplinary projects, supporting national defense and naval operations through deep-tech hardware innovation.
We’re looking for someone with foundational experience in PCB design, power systems, and optics, who is ready to grow quickly in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment.
Our main engineering challenge is to develop a real-time data platform that can ingest, process, store, and analyze data from thousands of autonomous and semi-autonomous marine systems. This system must be built to seamlessly handle a wide variety of sensors, hardware interfaces, data sources, and AI-driven analytics, all with military-grade security and robustness.
In This Role:
- You will contribute to the design, prototyping, and testing of electrical systems for our maritime communication hardware.
- You’ll support the development of custom PCBs and power electronics, and collaborate with the team on integrating optical and sensor components.
- You’ll work closely with senior engineers to bring complex hardware systems from concept to deployment, learning about full-stack hardware design along the way.
Responsibilities:
- Support schematic capture and PCB layout using industry-standard EDA tools (Altium, LTSpice, Hyperlynx, ViewMate) .
- Assist in the selection, integration, and testing of power electronics systems (e.g., solar input, battery systems, regulators).
- Aid in development and characterization of analog front-ends, including ADCs and signal conditioning circuits.
- Participate in design and testing of custom optical sensing assemblies, including alignment and calibration tasks.
- Collaborate with software, mechanical, and systems engineers to ensure cohesive and reliable system performance.
- Conduct lab testing, debugging, and hardware validation under supervision, maintaining detailed documentation of your work.
- Assist in transitioning designs from prototyping to production-ready form.
Basic Qualifications
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
- 1–3 years of relevant experience (internships or co-ops acceptable) in PCB design and testing.
- Hands-on experience with EDA tools such as KiCAD, Altium, or Eagle.
- Understanding of power systems, including converters, regulators, and battery management.
- Solid grasp of electrical fundamentals—Ohm’s law to signal chain design.
- Curiosity and willingness to learn in a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment.
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
- Exposure to optical systems, photodiodes, LEDs, or optical alignment techniques (lab or academic projects count!).
- Familiarity with signal integrity, impedance matching, or low-noise analog design.
- Knowledge of piezoelectric sensors or underwater acoustics.
- Past work in a startup, research lab, or a defense tech company (e.g., Anduril, Shield AI).
- Desire to transition from RF to related fields like sonar or acoustic sensing.
