About AndrenaM

AndrenaM is building the central nervous system for maritime autonomy by creating a distributed sensing and communication network. Our platform integrates sensors, autonomous vehicles, and AI-driven analytics to provide real-time situational awareness and defense capabilities. Our technology supports critical maritime defense operations for the U.S. Navy and NATO, pushing the boundaries of what is possible in maritime autonomy.

About this role

AndrenaM is seeking a Test & Operations Engineer with a hands-on background in mechanical/electrical systems, field testing, and ocean technology deployment. In this role, you’ll be on the front lines of bringing our maritime sensing platform to life—assembling, deploying, and validating distributed sensor nodes in challenging real-world ocean environments.

You’ll work closely with engineers and specialists to ensure systems operate as expected in the field, debug mechanical and electrical issues, and contribute critical insight into design-for-deployment and maintainability. This role bridges field operations with engineering development and is central to delivering rugged, reliable technology for maritime autonomy and defense.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, deploy, recover, and maintain sensing nodes in open-ocean and coastal environments.
  • Conduct pre-deployment checks, troubleshoot hardware issues (electrical or mechanical), and ensure system readiness.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to report field findings, inform product design, and validate performance.
  • Work side-by-side with other engineers to assess system behavior and identify opportunities for refinement.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of test procedures, configurations, and results.
  • Assist in the development of deployment tooling, jigs, and handling procedures for at-sea operations.
  • Operate test equipment such as multimeters, pressure testers, and underwater connectors/housings.
  • Support rapid prototyping and iterative testing cycles to accelerate field-readiness.

Basic Qualifications

  • BS mechanical or electrical engineering, ocean technology or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience with field testing of electro-mechanical or marine systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across mechanical assemblies, electronics, and sensor interfaces.
  • Familiarity with power systems, waterproof connectors, or instrumentation wiring.
  • Comfort working on boats or in marine environments.
  • Ability to work independently in high-stakes environments and adapt quickly to changing conditions.
  • Strong communicator with a bias toward action.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Exceptional analytical skills.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Previous ocean deployment experience is a plus.
  • Prior experience in ocean technology (AUVs, gliders, buoys, sonar arrays, etc.).
  • Skills in small fabrication, machining, soldering, or custom rigging for test environments.
  • Familiarity with underwater acoustic systems or data acquisition workflows.
  • Experience working with Navy, NOAA, or ocean research institutions.
  • Knowledge of environmental sealing, corrosion mitigation, or underwater mechanical design.
