About this Role

AndrenaM is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with expertise in design for manufacturing and production to develop and optimize cutting-edge mechanical systems for our maritime sensing and autonomous platforms. In this role, you will lead the design, analysis, prototyping and production readiness of mechanical components and systems, ensuring they are lightweight, durable, and cost-effective for high-volume manufacturing. Your work will directly impact our mission to deliver innovative solutions for maritime autonomy and defense.

As a founding engineering team member, you will play a pivotal role in designing mechanical systems that integrate sensors, electronics, and communication devices, tailored for operation in harsh maritime environments. From material selection to production scaling, your expertise will drive the creation of efficient, manufacturable designs that meet rigorous performance and quality standards.

In This Role, You Will

  • Design and Develop: Create innovative mechanical components and systems optimized for manufacturability and scalability, focusing on processes such as injection molding, composite layups, and CNC machining.
  • Integrate Systems: Collaborate with electrical and software engineers to seamlessly incorporate sensors, PCBs, and other electronics into mechanical designs, ensuring reliable performance in demanding environments.
  • Optimize Manufacturing: Drive designs toward efficient production methods, ensuring cost-effectiveness while maintaining quality and performance.
  • Lead Prototyping and Testing: Oversee the development, testing, and refinement of prototypes, transitioning designs to full-scale production.
  • Engineering Analysis: Use advanced CAD tools to design, perform FEA and thermal analysis to validate mechanical designs.
  • Collaborate with Suppliers: Work directly with manufacturing partners and suppliers to resolve production challenges and optimize cost-efficiency.
  • Drive Product Development: Influence product decisions from concept to production, ensuring designs are practical, manufacturable, and innovative.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed mechanical design and engineering analysis for components and systems.
  • Select materials (e.g., composites, polymers, advanced metals) based on application and environmental requirements.
  • Develop and document scalable manufacturing processes, including injection molding, composite fabrication, and CNC machining.
  • Engage in design reviews to ensure manufacturability, reliability, and compliance with defense standards.
  • Interface with vendors to improve production processes and resolve design-to-manufacture issues.
  • Create detailed CAD models and engineering drawings for production and assembly.
  • Participate in building initial prototypes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience: 7+ years in mechanical engineering with a focus on design for manufacturing (DFM) and production scaling.
  • Materials Knowledge: Proficient in selecting and working with composites, polymers, and metals for rugged environments.
  • Software Skills: Proficiency in CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Siemens NX) and analysis software (e.g., ANSYS for FEA and thermal analysis).
  • Systems Integration: Experience integrating sensors, PCBs, and electronic systems into mechanical designs.
  • Industry Background: Experience in defense, aerospace, automotive, or maritime technology is highly desirable.
  • Collaboration: Proven ability to work closely with cross-functional teams in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Startup Experience: Experience taking a clean sheet design from concept to production.
  • Willingness to Build: Experience building and integrating systems designed.
